Tutorial - The bow bun

My sister had this super cute bow bun. It's so adorbs and really easy to do, I thought I'd post a quick tutorial for you ladies on how to achieve this.

Step 1 & 2:

1. Using a scrunchie, put your hair up in a high ponytail.
You can use extensions if necessary. You'll need about 10 inches in length to make a nice looking bun

2. Fold the ponytail forward and secure with the scrunchie, leaving out about 2 inches of hair (this will form the middle part of the bow)

Step 3 & 4
3. Part the folded ponytail in the middle

4. Take the piece of hair you left out, fold it backwards in between the 2 sections and secure with a bobby pin.

Step 5
5. Fluff out either side of the bow to fill it out and make it look nice and full.

That's it!

Just like that, in 5 short steps you have added some oomph to your everyday bun.

  1. WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR THOSE OF US THAT LIVE HERE IN NIGERIA? COS I THINK OUR WEATHER IS REALLY HARSH AND THAT MAKES IT DIFFICULT FOR OUR HAIR TO GROW COMPARED TO WHEN YOU'RE ABROAD.

    1. Actually a lot of people experience faster growth in hot climates because the heat increases blood circulation which aids hair growth. In Nigeria, the air is either very humid (in the rainy season) or very dry (in the dry/harmattan season). Humidity during the rainy season is actually really good for our hair as it reduces moisture loss. Harmattan on the other hand is very dry and can be hard on your hair so during harmattan, you should moisturize, condition and oil your hair more frequently in order to combat the dryness. HTH

  2. I found your blog from sizzling mommy, and really I am so in love. I have started my hair journey and I can hardly wait to have healthy hair. Your regimen is so simple. How long did it take you to grown your hair to waist length?

    1. I've been growing my hair on and off for about 9 years. My hair grows at about half an inch every month, so if I were to start from scratch with no setbacks and no trims it would take me about 3 years to get to waist length.

    1. Are you deep conditioning your hair regularly? If not, you should deep conditioning your hair more frequently. This will strengthen, moisturize your hair and make it pliable so that it doesn't break as easily when manipulated. Another cause could be chemical damage, be sure not to over process your hair when relaxing it. Rgds.
