I made it to waist length - Apparently Naija/west african/kinky/4b hair can grow!

Hi ladies,

So I know I have been mia for a while. I have been super busy, but rest assured my hair has been growing. I finally made it to my goal of waist length. I have pretty uneven, somewhat scraggly ends and I will be getting a trim soon but right now I am reveling in my newly gotten rapunzelesque locks! Here are some pictures below:

Uneven ends :-(

My ends are thin, I definitely need a 2 or 3 inch trim which is totally reasonable considering the fact that I haven't trimmed my hair since I started this journey in April. I'm pretty happy with my length retention though. My hair grows at 1/2 and inch every month (which is pretty standard) and I retained everything. I don't think I'll trim right away. I'll aim for tailbone length in 3months, then I'll trim to waistlength... Excited much? :-)

  1. So motivating! I'm really motivated to put more effort into taking care of my hair. Great work by the way. I just have to be patient cos that is key. Goodluck!

  2. Exactly! Patience is the key. When you think about it, your hair is ALWAYS growing, that's basically all it does. So just leave it alone and give it time. You'll get there. Thanks for commenting and best of luck.

  4. This is really encouraging, just curious when did you start your hair journey? I've been on it since june of last year and I don't seem to have made much progress length wise.

  5. I've been growing my hair on and off for years. It took me about four and a half years to grow my hair from chin length to waist length. Without the setbacks, I probably would have gotten to waistlength sooner. However, this doesn't mean that you have to wait 4 years to see results. Within months of taking care of your hair you should see results: more noticeable growth, thicker hair, healthier ends etc. If you started in June last year and you are not seeing results you probably should make some changes to your regime- You may be using too much heat in your hair or perhaps you are not moisturizing enough, you may be over processing your hair... I can't really advise because I don't know what your current regimen is but I'll be writing a post on how to build a regimen soon, hopefully, you'll find it helpful.

  6. I had a huge set back from the stupid braids+ Arizona desert weather- my hair was matted beyond repaid and my ends were dried out had to trim off about 4 inches. I stretched for 6 months but not much gain in length because of the raggedy ends. smh

In revenge, I've now started using heat to flat iron. Couldn't care less. lol!

  7. Don't be vexed o. When my hair vexes me, I put it up in a bun or cornrows or some other protective style where I don't have to look at it or deal with it for at least a week or until when I am not longer vexed. If I handle my hair when I am vexed, I would be bald headed by now! But I think sometimes when we protective style, we don't pay as much attention to our hair as we should. Especially with braids cornrows and weaves. The hair is hidden so its easy to put off moisturizing and conditioning. I actually had a setback a few weeks ago from neglecting my hair for weeks. It was in cornrows and was looking fly. It wasn't until I took down the cornrows that I saw the dry, crunchy strands I was working with! #blackhairproblems
