Hair style trends - Summer 2013

This summer's hair trends include plaits, deep side parts, undercuts, 'fros and lots of color. Get some summer hair inspiration from these celebs:

Trend #1 - Plaits: Messy braids and flat twists

This summer, stave away the heat by putting your hair up in casual but stylish plaits. Kourtney Kardashian and Nicole Ritchie have theirs up in braided updos while beyonce wears hers in a long and loose side braid

Trend #2 - The undercut

Get an undercut to add style and edginess to your look. Below Rihanna, Rosario Dawson and Cassie show you how to rock an undercut. Afraid of the commitment? Fake it with a deep side part (Trend #3)

Trend #3 - Deep side part

The deep side part is a less extreme take on the undercut. Khloe Kardashian combines 2 trends (plaits and an extreme part) for a flawless finish. Beyonce adds emphasis with color and voluminous curls and Kerry Washington keeps it smooth and sleek in a low bun.

Trend #4 - Ombre hair:

Rocking the Ombre hair trend is a great way to go lighter this summer. Try Ciara's high contrast ombre look or go for more subtle transitions like Kelly Rowland and Lala Vasquez

Trend #5 - Natural hair/Big curly modern 'fros

The natural hair movement is here to stay and with it come these fierce and fab 'fros. Rita Dominic wears hers with a side part, Folake Huntoon wears hers in a halo of beautiful curls and coils while Kelly opts for longer lengths and a center part.

Trend #6 - Go red

Turn up the heat with some color. Red to be specific. Subtle reds, fierce bold reds, highlights or an ombre look are great ways to wear this trend.

Stay stylish with any of these looks or a combination of them. Enjoy the weather, have fun, laugh, love and stay hydrated!

xoxo

  1. According to your post dated 1st May, 2013: Save your hairline. I am about relaxing my hair and dont know how to do the edges, is it all the edges round or just the front edges that I should prevent from being relaxed? also is it a must that it must be a week after washing before relaxing, what about two, three days or so? Thanks pls I need your reply

    1. Just the area that is thinning. If you have any areas on your edges are are thinning or breaking, do not put relaxer on those areas.

I recommend waiting at least a week but if you want to do it sooner, you should make sure you base your scalp (with vaseline or any other good barrier) thoroughly before relaxing.

  3. Hi Adaorah,

I had the same experience when I was considering whether to buy Gold n Hot heat cap as well due to the negative reviews I read on Amazon. But after placing my order with an online hair blogger in Lagos (just do a google search for Today's Naira).I knew I made the right decision. Using this heat cap since I got it 6months ago has made a difference to my deep conditioning and I usually switch the knob to high to get maximum benefits as the medium might not be as hot as you want. Overall, I don't have any complaints using this cap and I don't regret buying it.

    1. Thanks a lot dear. Actually just noticed that there are 2 models, the GH3400 that had the poor reviews and the GH5010 that seems to be a newer model and doesn't have any review yet. Which did you get?

  6. Good morning, I'm a Nigerian so I went to my stylist to relax my hair yesterday but while relaxing this is what happened after applying the relaxer on my new growth she massage through comb it with a rat toothed tail i.e the small blue comb with tiny tooth; she comb it twice al-round and also applied it on the older growth sayin "if not applied on it the older growth i.e. previously relaxed hair would turn natural so applying it makes everything uniform" and I stayed 10mins more after this process got bone straight. This is how its been done here in Nigerian which I know of, But is this right? if not how do I go about it because I want my hair to be healthy.
I want to add protein to my hair using Egg, how do I go about it? What will I add? After this will I still Deep condition? Need your guidance Thanks I will be very glad! Temmy

  12. I vote for braids and twists! Undercut is just too extreme for me, and ombre is so 2013. Braids and twist updos are just practical, as they’re always in, and you’re not compromising the length and state of your hair.
